Roles & Permissions

Fast8D combines role-based access control (RBAC) with the principle of least privilege: permissions are scoped to specific operational responsibilities, and creators retain direct control over the resources they instantiate.

User Roles

  • Tenant Administrator: Full access to tenant configuration, master data, billing, and user seat management.
  • Approver: Authorized to evaluate and pass formal quality gate approvals across 8D disciplines.
  • Employee: Internal team members who can open claims, participate in 8D teams, and execute tasks.
  • External (Partner): Restricted access strictly isolated to claims linked directly to their customer or supplier company.

Least Privilege & Resource Ownership

Permissions follow clear ownership boundaries across the 8D lifecycle:

  • Creator Ownership: If you have permission to create an item (such as a root cause record, cost entry, or attachment), you maintain authority to update or delete it.
  • Action & Task Owners: For containment (D3) and corrective action (D5/D6) tasks, the user the action is assigned to has full control over updating progress, tracking costs, and submitting completion.
  • Claim Champion Authority: The designated Claim Champion holds comprehensive oversight over the claim, possessing full coordination authority to manage claim resources, assign team members, and guide the investigation across disciplines.

Approval Phase: Non-Editable State

To guarantee consistency during reviews, claims enter a locked, non-editable state during approval phases:

  • Review Integrity: While an approval decision is pending, the claim and its submitted deliverables cannot be modified.
  • Audit Consistency: Freezing edits prevents discrepancies between different review and sign-off steps, ensuring all stakeholders evaluate an identical, verified snapshot. If an approval is rejected with feedback, the claim returns to an editable state for remediation.
